The Bright Darkness Series
As an animation contemporary, my goal is to blend the boundaries of reality and dreams. Heavily inspired by Gustave Doré's use of light, my main source of inspiration comes from telling a story, while evoking a sense of mystery. With that in mind, The Bright Darkness Series was formed. Through the use of one source of light and the technique of chiaroscuro, the series focuses on storytelling through light, using negative space to evoke a sense of the unknown for the observer, while simultaneously highlighting parts of the painting that matter. Themes of harmony, conflict, and adventure echo throughout my works.

The Psychedelia Series
Playing on the themes of dreams, I wanted to add extreme use of color into my work. Where Bright Darkness Series showed internal conflict, The Psychedelia Series depicts harmony and peace. Bright warm colors flood the canvas to bring about a sense of tranquility, while still maintaining a sense of mystery. To brighten the canvas further, I chose to add iridescent acrylic to the works—highlighting the brightest parts of the scene. The goal was to make the painting radiate with glee in hopes that it will inspire the observer, and influence the mood to a positive state.
